My third
sounds festival, I witnessed in the two years in the KAH in Bonn, also called "Exhibition Hall" is named. Rüdiger Oppermann, however, it was the 21 Tour, where once again offered to German ears unheard and unfamiliar, even to the ears of a TFF-folkies and enthusiastic visitor.
Yes, the beginning was not so exotic, unless you already fremdelt the sound of a bagpipe and drum. Equipped with same instruments rose Rüdiger Oppermann and Bijan Mahjub (yes, our Bijan from Cologne, the musician) down the stairs right through the audience. Bijan played an Iranian bagpipe henceforth no longer apply came, and Rüdiger a drum. That sounded oriental and medieval, thus quite usual for a regular visitor to the medieval market at Christmas time in Siegburg and from time to time similar events here and there. In the course of the concert held Rüdiger Oppermann on his two harps on stage waiting for him, which he again drew Celtic and Celtic but not documentation, combined with all sorts of electronic amplification as echoes, loops and the like. Bijan attacked the other hand, the Bombarde, and that he was so loud that you would have heard an unamplified harp is no longer anyway. As it was, offered both in Brittany native instruments under the title "Far West" is a wistful contrast harmony. As the Atlantic waves rushing against the cliffs, with only gentle breezes swept over the meadows.
went from west to east, then and in a very very unusual way. Three men and a lady from Korea, Kim Juhong, Cho Wonil, Lee Howon and (exceptionally Ladies last) Oh Hyunyu offered as an ensemble Samulon Noreumachi on various drums and gongs (Kwänggari, Tschanggo, Buk and Jing called) a percussion storm without equal . It was like spontaneous, but was rehearsed to the last handle in Korea and one in the nation so widespread tradition in this country as the brass bands. We stayed in the Far East with Hong Yu Chen, a petite Chinese girl from Nanjing, who played an equally delicate instrument, a Guqin, a classic fingerboard zither, played for 2500 years and actually occurs in at least nearly as old instruments. It sounded so beautiful Chinese, that one may wish that the Chinese were also generally in politics and business so sensitive in this music. And what a contrast to the Koreans, at least to the drummers of the evening!
Although the Koreans and the Chinese traditional, fixed arrangement played, they could still do with improvising the Westerners together. The Westerners, with which it showed the first drummer was, for our language an Oriental, namely Houssaine Kili from Morocco. Yes, that's funny that we are part of the Orient Morocco, even though it belongs to the Maghreb, just to the west. He sang and played his Guimbri, a very archaic-looking plucked from a fur-covered wooden box, first alone a song from his Gnawa tradition, but he was then accompanied by the Koreans. And it fitted like Chinese tea Moroccan Mint: Wonderful!
So it went throughout the evening continued in different interplay between the Atlantic and Pacific, bombastic and very tender alternated. Very interesting was the game at three or scarf my schalmeiähnlichen instruments Breton, Korean and Chinese Origin, presented by Bijan, Oh Hyunyu and Hong Yu Chen, which showed how similar these different cultures, but sometimes are. The Silk Road would approve. In the end we went to the Rhine plains, no, not in the Cologne bay, but to Alsace, the Bijan has dedicated a piece, "Les Vagues d'Alsace", the "waves of Alsace," by which he meant the wine lined hills.
As I was reading Bijan only in the first half of this tour, the second in his place Enkh Jargal, so Epi, the Mongol. As much as I hear Epi, I'm glad to have experienced here with Bijan, otherwise the east would be something been over-represented. And besides, I like the sound of bombards and shawm so much! (As I learned in the meantime, I will be in Jena, when there Epi is part of it, and I will take the opportunity there to listen to it inside.)
Oh, Bijan asked me to write that opening the doors at the beginning of the addition of the musicians was very uncomfortable because they had seen this from the stage to open the doors and unrest had come into the audience.
And can not I must mention that even John and Ingrid Mayr Mayr-Feiler (Dán, People Mayr and others) in the audience stayed and enjoyed the music too.
